Access to the Archives
Access in most cases needs to be arranged in advance. Contact the Archivist.
Location and opening hours
The University Archives is located on the ground floor of the University
Library (Bldg 16). View map.
The Archives office is staffed weekdays during normal business hours
(closed weekends, public holidays and between Christmas and New Year).
Assistance with research enquiries
Due to the number and type of enquiries the Archives receives, priority
is given to requests from UOW staff and students. Enquiries from outside
the University community are followed up as
quickly as staff time permits.
When you lodge an enquiry the Archivist will advise you on the turnaround
time it may take to process your request.
Before contacting the Archives please refer to the information provided
in the various guides to Searching
the collections.
Requesting access to specific material
If you have identified a specific item/collection you wish to look at,
note the Archives accession number (for example: C48 - World War 1).
Contact the Archivist in advance to request access to the material as the requested items will need to be checked for
any access restrictions and/or retrieved from storage. Some of the collections
are stored off site.
The Archivist will arrange a suitable appointment time with you to come
in to view the material in the Archives reading room.
Restricted material
The majority of material is openly available to researchers. Some collections,
however, have access restrictions placed upon them by either the depositors
or legislative requirements. In such cases the Archivist will assist requesters
in seeking the necessary permission to gain access.
Material for which such permission is required should be specified at
least three weeks in advance to allow time for this process to be undertaken.
