Connecting to the UOW Library wireless network using Microsoft Windows XP SP2
Before you begin ...
- Ensure your laptop has a WPA-compliant wireless card and driver.
- Turn off ALL running firewalls (e.g.Windows Firewall, McAfee and Symantec/Norton). Firewalls can be re-enabled after you have successfully connected to wireless.
Procedure
- Desktop
Navigate to the Control Panel
Select Network Connections
OR
Select Network and Internet Connections then select Network Connections
Right-click on Wireless network Connection and click the Properties button. - Wireless Networks tab
Under "Preferred networks" click Add… - Association tab
Under "Network name (SSID)", type UOW
Under "Network Authentication""," select WPA (If given a choice, choose Enterprise)
Under "Data encryption" select TKIP - Authentication tab
Uncheck Authenticate as computer when computer information is available
Under "EAP type:" select Protected EAP (PEAP)
Click the Properties button - Protected EAP Properties
Under "Trusted Root Certification Authorities:", check Equifax Secure Certificate Authority - Under "Select Authentication Method:", select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
Click the Configure button - EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties
Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain, if any).
Close the window - An authentication box should popup. This may take a few minutes.
Enter your UOW email/SOLS username and password.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO ENTER ANYTHING IN THE DOMAIN FIELD
Problems?
- If you are unable to connection try rebooting your computer.
- If you are still unable to connect proceed to the Information Desk on the ground floor and ask for a Rover to help you. Rovers are available Monday to Friday between 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Proxy information
To surf web sites outside the University, you will need to configure your browser to use our proxy server:
FireFox (1.5)
- Click "Tools" -> "Options"…, Select the General tab, Click "Connection Settings…",
- Select "Automatic proxy configuration URL:" enter http://www.uow.edu.au/autoproxy.pac and click "OK" then "OK" to close the Options window.
FireFox (2 or higher)
- Click "Tools" -> "Options"…, Select "Advanced" then select the Network tab
- Under "Connection" click "Settings…", Select "Automatic proxy configuration URL:" enter http://www.uow.edu.au/autoproxy.pac and click "OK" then "OK" to close the Options window.
Internet Explorer (6 and 7)
- Click "Tools" -> "Internet Options…", Select the Connections tab, Click "LAN settings"
- Check "Use Automatic Configuration Scripts"
- Enter http://www.uow.edu.au/autoproxy.pac and click "OK" then "OK" to close the Options window.
