Keep up to dateYour research area is constantly changing with the addition of new knowledge and research methodology. Keep up to date with the latest literature and research information via: Email alertsDatabases and journal publisher web sites are regularly updated as additional material is published. Email alerts are one mechanism for researchers to be notified as material becomes available. Alerts are available from many databases and publisher web sites. Databases generally include journals from many different publishers while a publisher's web site will only include its own journals. Email alerts are:
- time saving - no need to repeat searches
- comprehensive - alerts are generated for any database selected
- delivered to your desktop - quick and easy access to the latest literature
Email alerts are created using:
- Keywords
- Authors
- Table of Contents for selected journals
- Citation alert (for some databases)
- Combination of the above
Setting up alertsDatabases and publishers usually require free registration. Alerts may be set up in databases or directly from the publisher's web site. In the first instance, use the databases to set up your alerts. If you need alerts from more specialised sources, such as conferences or societies, use the publishers' web site.
