Selecting new library resources
Resource selection is a collaborative activity between the university community and Library staff to develop the collection in research and teaching at UOW.
Your Faculty Librarian has a central role in this process recommending and receiving material from academic staff supporting key research, teaching and learning programs. To assist staff in identifying and evaluating new library resources for purchase or inclusion on subject reading lists use the selection tools below or contact your Faculty Librarian for assistance.
All policy documents regarding collection development and management are available on the Library's Planning and policies page.
Checking academic reviews can help you assess titles for potential purchase. One of the review journals the Library recommends is ChoiceReviews.online This is particularly useful for undergraduate level titles.
For other sources of reviews check the Finding book reviews guide.
Your Faculty Librarian receives information (blurbs) from a variety of Library suppliers which may be forwarded to you. For more details about blurbs or assistance with identifying new titles contact your Faculty Librarian.
There are also many sites providing information on new titles ranging from broad to specific coverage. Use your favourite site or try one from the list below.

Out of print titles can be difficult to obtain. If you are preparing a reading list that includes out of print titles, particularly for subjects delivered at other campuses, please contact your Faculty Librarian to discuss the options available to you.
When requesting Library resources for subjects:
- Send lists of requested materials to your Faculty Librarian
- Specify if the material is text or recommended reading, the number of students, the subject code and the site(s) at which they are required (Wollongong, Batemans Bay, Bega, Loftus, Moss Vale or Shoalhaven)
Reading lists
When completed, please forward a copy of each reading list to your Faculty Librarian so that resources can be ordered and are readily available for all students at the beginning of session.
