Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated

What is ACSPRI?

Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Inc. is an organisation that provides training for researchers in the social sciences research methods. It facilitates access to social science data and provides training to manipulate the data. ACSPRI members also have access to the Australian Social Science Data Archive and the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research.

What training does ACSPRI provide?

The ACSPRI program typically provides training in areas such as qualitative research techniques, SPSS & SAS (statistical packages), forecasting and procedures & writing. Training is not limited to the social sciences but also includes areas such as behavioural, health and medical sciences, policy research, education, economics, epidemiology, law, management, marketing, public relations and human resource management.

Discounts apply for staff and students of the University of Wollongong as an ACSPRI institutional member. Early bird discounts are also available.

ASSDA

Australian Social Science Data Archive

ASSDA collects datasets from academic and government studies, surveys and opinion polls. The free raw data is predominantly Australian, but also includes other countries in the region. Staff and students of the University of Wollongong have access to ASSDA via the ACSPRI site.

Manipulate raw data from ASSDA to create your own tables, crosstabulations and graphical representations of data in customisable forms.

A wide range of subjects are included: adoption, aids, crime, drug & alcohol, family, health, migrants and youth, politics and more.

The list of titles provides an abstract, method of data collection and in some cases reference to related cases and publications generated by the principal investigators.

Registration is required prior to accessing the data. Use the side bar to drill down to the required dataset. For assistance with creating and analysing data use the Help button at the top of the screen.

ICPSR

Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (University of Michigan)

All researchers in Australian academic institutions are entitled to access the large collection of survey and historical data in the ICPSR Archives. Requestsfrom Australian researchers for ICPSR data must be made through ASSDA.
