Borrowing information

Loans

All University of Wollongong students and staff may borrow from the Libraries at Batemans Bay, Bega, Loftus, Moss Vale and Shoalhaven. To do so go to the Library concerned. You will be expected to return items to the Library from which you borrowed them. There is no delivery service from these Libraries to the Wollongong Campus Library. An intercampus document delivery service operates for students and staff at these locations.

Your Student or Staff Identification Card should be carried with you at all times. At Batemans Bay, Bega and the Shoalhaven Campus your, Identification Card is also your Library card and must always be used to borrow. At Loftus and Moss Vale you will be required to present your Identification Card to enrol as a borrower from the University Collection. A local borrower's card will be issued to you.

The number of books you can borrow, and the length of the loan period, will depend on your borrower category.

All items on loan can be renewed twice. If the items are overdue, have holds or have been renewed twice the renewal will be denied. Holds can be placed on an item that is on loan. Clients can place up to two holds at a time.

Borrowed items may be returned at the Loans/Information Desk or through the book return chute near the entrance to your local Library.

Overdue items

Overdue items will result in you being blocked from borrowing and fines will also be applied. Ask at your local Library for further information about fines. You can avoid Library fines by returning items you have borrowed on or before the due date.

Reciprocal borrowing

University of Wollongong students and staff may borrow from other university libraries in Australia through the Reciprocal borrowing scheme ULA (University Libraries Australia).

Loftus

University of Wollongong students and staff located at the Loftus Education Centre may borrow materials from the TAFE NSW - Sydney Institute, Loftus Campus Library collection.

Moss Vale

University of Wollongong students and staff located at the Moss Vale Education Centre may borrow materials from the TAFE NSW - Illawarra Institute, Moss Vale Campus Library collection. Illawarra Institute students and staff located at the Moss Vale Campus may borrow University of Wollongong materials held in the Moss Vale Campus Library.

University of Wollongong students and staff may borrow from other Illawarra Institute Libraries on payment of a $50 (including GST) per annum fee.

Shoalhaven

Illawarra Institute students and staff located at the Shoalhaven Campus have full borrowing rights at the Shoalhaven Campus Library. Other Illawarra Institute students and staff may borrow from University of Wollongong Library collections on payment of a $50 (including GST) per annum fee.

Other Universities

Students and staff from other tertiary institutions cannot borrow items from University collections at other locations through reciprocal borrowing agreements such as ULA because these collections are small core collections designed for the specific use of students and staff at these sites.

Community Borrowers

Members of the local community (including students from other universities who are local residents) may borrow from the University of Wollongong collections at their local Library on payment of a $165 (including GST) per annum fee. Community membership is not transferable between individual Libraries or the Wollongong Campus Library. Community membership application forms are available at your local Library.
